Authenticity
Authenticity, documented.
A certificate of authenticity is part of a print’s provenance. This guide explains how IRID issues its certificates, how to recognise one, and how to ask us to verify a certificate, including those issued by our represented photographers.
What every IRID certificate carries
A blind-embossed seal
Every certificate the gallery issues is pressed with the IRID seal. It is raised and uninked, so you feel it before you see it.
The artwork details
The artist, title, edition number, image size and date of issue, matched to the print it accompanies.
QR-linked guidance
A printed QR code that opens this page and the gallery’s verification process.
Certificate identification
How to recognise an IRID certificate.
IRID certificates follow one format, so you can match the document to the work. Its details should agree with the print, the invoice and the gallery’s records.
01
IRID Gallery branding
The gallery logo and the title Certificate of Authenticity.
02
A blind-embossed seal
Raised and tactile. It may not show in a photograph, so run a finger across it.
03
Artist and title
The artist’s name and the exact title of the work.
04
Edition and image size
The edition number and image dimensions identify the exact print format.
05
Date and signature
The date of issue and an authorising signature.
06
An IRID QR code
It links to this page and the gallery’s verification process.
Never judge a certificate on one feature. We check the embossing, the document, the markings on the work and our records together.
Verification
Certificates from the gallery and from our photographers.
IRID reviews the certificates it issues. Where records allow, we also help verify certificates issued by the photographers we represent.
IRID-issued certificates
Checked against gallery records.
We compare the certificate’s details, embossing and signature with our edition, sale and issue records, and with the information on the work itself.
Artist-issued certificates
Supported for represented photographers.
Some of our photographers issue their own certificates. We can help verify one when the work and certificate match available artist or gallery records. The artist may also need to confirm.
Request verification
How to request verification.
01 · Provide
Send clear photographs
Of the whole certificate, the seal, the signature and edition notation, and the front and back of the work.
02 · Compare
We review the records
IRID compares what you send with available gallery, edition and artist records.
03 · Respond
You receive a written outcome
We confirm what can be authenticated and tell you if we need anything further.
Include in one email
A full photograph of the certificate
A close photograph of the embossed seal
The edition number and any signature
Front and back photographs of the print
Any invoice or purchase documents
Send everything to hello@iridgallery.com.au.
The QR code alone does not replace the physical certificate or the gallery record. To verify a specific print, IRID needs to check the certificate details.

Unsure about a certificate?
Speak with the gallery before you alter, replace or copy a certificate. When a work changes hands, the certificate goes with it. Email hello@iridgallery.com.au.
