BIOGRAPHY

Gianluca Carretta is an Australian wildlife photographer whose practice is shaped by a deep sensitivity to the natural world and an intuitive ability to capture fleeting moments with clarity and intent. Known as Luca among his peers, his imagery explores the relationship between behaviour, environment, and presence—where each frame reveals both the physical and emotional essence of his subjects.

Grounded in patience and observation, his work captures wildlife with a quiet precision that balances technical control with instinct. There is a stillness within his images, where timing, light, and proximity align to create photographs that feel both immediate and enduring.

With formal training in photography and photo imaging from RMIT University, and further refined through mentorship with industry professionals, his practice is informed by both technical foundation and lived experience. His background and global travels have shaped a perspective rooted in curiosity, immersion, and respect for the environments he encounters.

Recognised across national and international platforms, his work reflects a sustained commitment to the craft of seeing—revealing the wild not as spectacle, but as something intimate, present, and deeply felt.
